Antineoplastic Agents from Marine Organisms

The long term objectives of this program are to identify new structural classes of natural products produced by marine organisms, to evaluate their potential as anticancer chemotherapy agents and determine their mechanism(s) of antitumor action.  This discovery program is driven by a comprehensive mechanism of action based protocol which allows us to detect most if not all known mechanisms of antitumor action and distinguish as yet undiscovered mechanisms.  In the last grant period, we have successfully identified a number of novel classes of natural products produced by marine organisms, with very potent in vitro and in vivo activity against murine and human tumors.
