    Research: Isoprenoids

    Proteins that Bind Isoprenoids

Our interest in the enzymatic cyclization of oxidosqualene and squalene led us to develop site-directed suicide substrates and selective inhibitors for the mammalian enzymes, and more recently human pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Leishmania mexicana, Pneumocystis carinii, and Trypanosoma brucei. In addition, we developed novel fluorescent analogs of geranylgeranyl diphosphate and farnesyl diphosphate that we used in cell based assays. A final and ongoing project in this area is the synthesis and use of archebacterial geranylgeranyl glyceryl phosphates.
