Grainger, PhD to Department Chair and Inaugural Holder of the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Presidential Endowed Chair of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry The University of Utah College of Pharmacy is pleased and honored to announce the appointment of Dr. David W. Grainger as Department Chair and inaugural holder of the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Presidential Endowed Chair of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. He will also hold a joint academic appointment in the Department of Bioengineering. Dr. Grainger will assume his academic and administrative position as of August 1, 2006. Dr. Grainger is an internationally recognized leader in biomaterials and drug delivery research and is also recognized for his teaching excellence. His educational background includes a B.A. in engineering and chemistry from Dartmouth College and a PhD in pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of Utah (1987). He returns to the University of Utah from Colorado State University where he garnered several awards for teaching excellence as a Professor of Chemistry. His honors and distinctions include the 2005 PhRMA Foundation Excellence in Pharmaceutics Award, Fellow status in the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, and service on multiple NIH study sections, scientific advisory boards of professional and private organizations, and the editorial boards of several prominent journals in his fields. Dr. Grainger brings a strong, diverse array of research interests combining his expertise in surface chemistry, materials in medicine, diagnostic assays, protein delivery for cardiovascular, orthopedic and regenerative medicine, targeted therapeutics, and vaccines, and drug delivery innovation in infectious diseases. He is committed to providing leadership in expanding interdisciplinary research and educational opportunities at the University. The College of Pharmacy joins Senior Vice President Betz in warmly welcoming Dr. Grainger to our academic community.
