Question: How many hours do I need to register for?

  • Pre-prelim students should:
    • Register for their didactic classes,
    • 1 hour of research seminar (Phceu 7890), and
    • enough hours of thesis research (Phceu 7970) to total 12 hours.
      (Any masters students should register for Phceu 6970 instead of 7970.)
  • Post-prelim students who have not finished their didactic coursework should:
    • Register for their didactic classes,
    • One hour of Journal Club and,
    • Enough hours of thesis research (Phceu 7970) to total 12 hours.
  • Post-prelim students who have finished their didactic coursework should register for:
    • 11 hours of thesis research (Phceu 7970) and,
    • 1 hour of journal club.

Please note the course numbers vary depending upon your status.

Question: Where do I get a lab coat?

First you will need to acquire a Campus Order form from the secretary who handles your advisor's accounts. Take this campus order to Linen Services on the lower level of the School of Medicine (AA120 SOM) and place your order there.


Question: Where do I get an email account?

A free email account can be set up with either the university, or the college of pharmacy.
In order to set up an account with the university, either follow their instructions, or go to the Computer Center at 3440 MEB (the engineering building on lower campus).

Question: What do I need to do before my thesis defense?

Before your thesis defense you must:

  • Complete two publications where you are the first author from your thesis research
  • Complete 3 Seminars as outlined by our instructions
  • Complete a T.A. Position
  • Complete Your Preliminary Exam as specified by our prelim section
  • Complete the Defense Clearance Form (Adobe Acrobat Required to view)
