Profile

Dr. Asche is a Research Associate Professor and the Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy Department of Pharmacotherapy in Salt Lake City.  He is also an investigator with the Pharmacotherapy Outcomes Research Center and a member of the University of Utah Center on Aging.

Dr. Asche received a M.Sc. (Health Economics) from the University of York and a Ph.D.  (Economics) from the University of Surrey.  Prior to joining the University of Utah, Dr. Asche spent 7 years in the pharmaceutical industry with Aventis Pharmaceuticals and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Group, where he managed health economics and outcomes research applied to both research and development (R&D) and customer marketing areas.  Before entering the pharmaceutical industry, he worked as a Research Coordinator in the Department of Health Administration at the University of Toronto and as an Economist for Alberta Health.

Dr. Asche is a member of a variety of professional societies including the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR), International Health Economics Association (iHEA), and the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP).  At a national and international level, Dr. Asche serves as co-chair of the ISPOR “Classification of Databases Working Group / Retrospective Database Special Interest Group” and is a member of the scientific committee of the iHEA World Congresses for 2007 and 2009.  He is also a member of the editorial boards representing the AMCP Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy (JMCP) and the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (JAC).  His research has included clinical and economic outcomes associated with infectious diseases, diabetes, respiratory disorders, oncology, musculoskeletal disorders, multiple sclerosis, and women’s health.  He has published widely, particularly in health services research and pharmacoeconomics.
