SERVICE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY AND TOXICOLOGYDepartment faculty provide service at the local, regional and national levels, largely on a volunteer basis. This includes work with the homeless and those with substance abuse problems, as well as in organizations such as the American Diabetes Association. A number of the faculty serve their profession by holding national offices in organizations such as the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Society for Toxicology and Society for Neuroscience, by reviewing grant applications for funding agencies, and by serving as editors and reviewers for scientific journals. Faculty members are also in demand as consultants for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Many of the faculty participated in anti-doping activities during the recent Winter Olympic Games held in Salt Lake City; this effort was headed up by Dr. Doug Rollins, Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, who was Chief Medical Officer for Doping Control for the Games.
